Embellished Surfaces - Final sample ( work in progress)

Now all my techniqual samples and dying fabrics are done it is now time for my to produce my four embellished samples. This will be done by me selecting some drawings on a A3 sheet and then coping the drawing to fabric to make it look like the drawing.

My first sample , all that needs to be done is a dash more colour in the pattrn and then some more lines added, as there is alot more in the drawing. I used machine and hand stiching.

my second sample , here i used my new dying fabric skills so i could get the colour correct from the actual picture. On this final piece i used machine stiching , and i am going to be reverse appliquing the patterns , then use hand stiching for the little details.

Embellished Surfaces - Dying Fabric

My first attempt at dying fabrics, am not going to lie it was hard and a little confussing with what colout goes with what chemical but with a little but of pratice , i got it (a little). By using silk to dye i got a very sleek finish and the fabric dyed really well. Now i will be able to take my new skill to other projects.

Machine Embroidery

Today was the start of the new module MACHINE EMBROIDERY, this is all new to me so i wasn't sure what to expect, but after a long day of sewing and sorting the machine out a number of times , i realy enjoyed it and i got some really good results. Untill now i never really though of embroidery as 'fun' but today has totally changed my mind and am looking forward to the next lesson 'HAND EMBROIDERY' . . . . .
My firt attempt at free running stitch using an embridery hoop, this really helped me get a feel of how to move around freely and once i got comfortale with that i tried colouring in with thread.

One of my own designs, traced on and being sewn on
one of the new techniques i learnt today was 'whipping stitch', got some very unusual pattens
Another technique i learnt was 'cable stitch' i really liked this one and could see me using this one in the future, i really liked the unusal pattern and also the look it created.
using coloured thread to 'paint' i really like the sketchy look

Rosemary Milner

The unfinished parts really add to to this piece , and i personally really like the idea of it.

Rosemary Milner
As my next project includes a lot of embroidery ,I decided to make a start researching designers who use embroidery, and as I have never done embroidery it has also showed me how i could go about doing my work.

I love in this piece how she uses the coloured thread to create different tones , and mingles in with each other
